I remember ages ago the saying was “Corvette interiors age in dog years”.

Credit where credit is due, the rest of the interior has held up remarkably well(condition wise).

That being the steering wheel and dash?

Old Vettes always seem to have somewhat decayed seats, even lower mileage garage queens.

Yeah, those and the carpet, door panels, etc.

Always amusing how GM can get some things so right, and some things so wrong.

It isn’t helped by the condition of some of the drivers

What’s even more amazing is that they were making genuinely good, comfortable seats at the same time, just not for the Corvette.

Maybe even with better materials. I often see nice enough looking seats on otherwise neglected looking old Cadillacs, and I suspect most Corvettes lead an even easier life.

Who also sometimes age in dog years.

The seats GM chose for the Corvette at the time would have been out of place in an Aveo.

My ‘00 model just surpassed 45,000 miles this past week. The beige leather has a couple of creases, but thankfully the bolstering is all still in great shape.

In fact, despite it feeling like the cheapest plastic known to humankind, almost the entire interior is still in great shape. The only bummers are the red reflector in the driver’s door has a broken clip (it’s just been glued into place), and one of the latches broke on the small storage area in the rear passenger side. It still sits flush and you can’t tell by looking at it, but it doesn’t actually clip shut anymore.

Most surprisingly however, is that the HUD is still flawless.

Funnily enough, that doesn’t look half bad to me. I’m mostly into 45+ year-old cars, s o I’m used to looking at photos of bad interiors. The interior of my ‘66 Thunderbird has a couple rips in two seats and the door cards are kinda sad, but I think it looks fantastic for its age. Maybe I just have really low standards, but I think that C5 interior looks fine .

The side “bolstering” is okay still, just the whole bottom of the seat is the frame now.

I guess pics don’t show it well, but it's not torn vinyl, it's a fully collapsed seat bottom.

Ah, yeah I gotcha. Thankfully mine is still fully cushy. But it was a garage queen most of its life, and owned by a very slight gentleman.
